MISSION

The members of Black Brothers United would like to build positive images for young men living in urban areas.  Among the main purposes of the BBU, is the creation of positive images for the younger generation, because it is our future.  Black Brothers United strives to be viewed not as an organization that is anti-Women, anti-Asian, anti-Anglo, etc, but as organization whose establishment is for the better making of males growing up in and living in communities.  The members of Black Brothers United focuses their attention on all males in need of guidance, no matter what his ethnic background may be.

One purpose that Black Brothers United has incorporated in its program is that of educating inner city males.  Statistics show that inner city/urban males with parents that have attained at least a high school diploma has increased over the past 25 years.  However, many of those parents are single women raising young males.  Black Brothers United shall provide an outlet for inner city males to receive tutoring, mentoring and be influenced by strong positive images.  By providing this outlet, urban males will have pride, confidence and a strong sense of self.

Another important purpose of Black Brothers United is to provide job assistance for our members.  Members of BBU who may have obtained influential positions in business or other fields can offer incentive and encouragement for others.  Also, urban males will remain optimistic about obtaining significant positions for themselves.  By helping others we in turn, help ourselves.

Self-reliance and cooperative economics are also ideals the BBU upholds.  Building businesses in the urban areas and most importantly, supporting them, is essential to our progress.  With the establishment, building, development, expansion and support of businesses in the inner city will come opportunity for urban males, and ideally longevity and prosperity of them.

The members of Black Brothers United intend to provide for urban youth a healthy, supportive and often serious environment wherein positive and constructive interaction takes place.  Such an outlet will allow urban youngsters to better and more effectively gear and target their positive aspirations.  BBU shall provide assistance to urban youth in learning through good and positive examples.  For instance, BBU will strongly encourage learning to follow the living examples of outstanding men that grew up in urban areas such as Former Secretary of State - Colin Powell, Former NYC Mayor - David Dinkins, NFL All-Pro Curtis Martin and the list goes on.

Black Brothers United strives to progressively uplift the urban male from the predicament’s he is in.  For example, BBU strives to change the image of the urban male (i.e. – being depicted as drug dealers, thugs, dead-beat dads, irresponsible lovers, shiftless vagrants, incarcerated societal drop-outs and drug addicted fools in movies, music videos, news media & television).  In addition, we make every effort to eradicate the “N” word in mass media and in our youth altogether.  BBU strives to steadfastly change urban males for the better – economically, politically, socially and mentally.

Though there are several goals which Black Brothers United, Inc. will pursue, the ultimate goal, be it resolved that all urban boys and men are free from mental and physical bondage and destruction, to be able to truly claim that, in addition to the union of all racial and ethnic groups.  We are, Black Brothers United.
